Baptism and Confirmation

Are you thinking of Baptism or Confirmation for yourself or for your children?

The Sacraments of Baptism and the Holy Eucharist are at the heart of our Christian life. In the sacraments we receive no less than the gift, or the grace of Jesus Christ himself as we set out on our journey of faith. The decision to become full members of God’s Holy Church through Baptism is made by an older child or adult, or by parents and godparents on behalf of the child.

In the sacrament of the Holy Communion we receive through grace the gift of Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven who comes to us and gives us life. In the Church of England baptised children and adults can be admitted to Holy Communion if they have received special preparation and with the understanding that ongoing learning is necessary. Some of our children already receive Holy Communion.

Confirmation, which is not a sacrament in the Anglican tradition, is when an older child or adult desires to officially confirm their baptismal vows. The Bishop lays his/her hands on the candidate and says, “Confirm, O Lord, your servant with your Holy Spirit”. All those who are confirmed are admitted to Holy Communion.

The sacraments build up our common life together as the body of Christ. If you have questions, would like to be baptised, confirmed or desire for your child to be baptised, admitted to communion or confirmed please do get in touch with me.
