Puccini’s opera Suor Angelica concert
Friday and Saturday, 1 and 2 November 20.00 at Christ Church
It’s been a hundred years… Suor Angelica was first produced in Europe in January 1919 after the world premiere in New York.
This one-act opera is one of the few in history to feature only female characters. Suor Angelica was the favourite among the operas of the Trittico: his writing is unique, with melodies evolving in simple stages rather than in dramatic leaps. Suor Angelica is a victim of events and, in the eyes of the composer Puccini, she has an angelic nature and name.
The Opera 2019 Workshop is a collaboration between the International Singing Academy with Rachel Bersier (vocal coach and director), the Ad Hoc Vocal Ensemble with Philippe Savoy (vocal direction choir) and the Lycordia Ensemble with Juan David Molano (musical director). This project brings together singers and musicians in a touching setting with an instrumental arrangement of Giacomo Puccini’s work created for the occasion by Juan David Molano. Choral works by Gabriel Fauré will introduce the concert.
Entrance is free, and a collection is left to your generosity afterwards.
